O Iluminado [The Shining] Book Cover
The cover proposal for the book The Shining (1977), by American author Stephen King, is the result of work done during the course How to Create Covers, taught by Brazilian designer Giovanna Cianelli, offered by Seiva. The title was chosen via a raffle. Seeking to break away from the usual Stephen King classic covers, this special edition of The Shining features a graphic design influenced by Op Arts, featuring an all-type cover with the book title in lettering inspired by the hotel labyrinth featured in the story. In addition, the reduced color palette brings out a mesmerizing contrast, especially due to the special Pantone green tone. For the book's endpapers, a reinterpretation of the hotel carpet pattern from the 1980 feature film of the same name directed by Stanley Kubrick was created, drawing this visual parallel to attract new readers.
